Midterm 1 + Check-in

Midterm 1

A note on regrade requests:

  • Grading is often a tedious task, and the grading team will sometimes make mistakes. I am always happy to fix these mistakes, and gradescope makes it easy to do so.
  • Regrade requests must be submitted on gradescope within two weekdays after grades are returned to you.
  • Regrade requests are for administrative errors or obvious grading mistakes. I will not consider regrade requests for anything that applied to the entire class (e.g. “I think this mistake should only be worth 1 point instead of 2” or “I didn’t realize we had to do X”).
  • If you’re unsure whether you should file a regrade request or not, just ask! You are always welcome to discuss any grading questions with me in office hours.

Check-In Results

Going Well (all n=2-5)

  • Prep before class (readings, video, pre-class assignment)
  • Note Sheets are helpful
  • Group work
  • Homework
  • Manageable workload/pace
  • General comprehension
  • R is fun/not that bad/etc.

Things to change: (all n=1)

  • Feeling a little lost with basic concepts
  • Homework R problems are too long
  • Homework should be shorter but more challenging
  • Please stop group work

Balance of lectures/group work

Pre-class videos

How helpful is….

How much time/How often

Moving forward

  • In general, past students have found the next “chunk” of the class to be more conceptually challenging
  • No major changes to length/difficulty of homework
  • We will continue to do group work
  • Continue having a mix of reading/video for pre-class work
